BioMedRTC at the 25 Anniversary of MPI-CBG in Dresden

On August 24-25, 2026, the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) in Dresden celebrated its 25th anniversary with an extensive scientific program that brought together current and former researchers from the institute, as well as representatives of the scientific and political communities.

Among the invited guests at the anniversary event was Dr. Stoyno Stoynov, Project Coordinator of BG16RFPR002-1.008-0001 "BioMedRTC." During the event, Mihail Sarov, a member of the BioMedRTC Steering Committee, presented the new Center for Biomedical Research and Technologies, outlining its scientific concept and the opportunities it will offer for work, research, and the development of international collaborations.

Presenting BioMedRTC to the international scientific community in Dresden is a significant opportunity to promote the Center and establish new connections with leading European researchers and scientific organizations. Participation in the MPI-CBG anniversary places BioMedRTC in an environment where interdisciplinary research, advanced research technologies, and international scientific collaboration are key drivers of scientific progress.

MPI-CBG celebrates 25 years in Dresden

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) was officially founded on January 1, 1998. On January 22, 2001 the scientists moved into the new research building in Dresden. This marked the beginning of the 25-year period celebrated in August 2026.

The official ceremony on August 24 brought together representatives from the scientific community and various institutions, including Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of Saxony; Prof. Patrick Cramer, President of the Max Planck Society; and Heike Graßmann, State Secretary at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture, and Tourism. The two-day scientific program featured around 130 lectures by current and former MPI-CBG scientists, as well as keynote lectures by internationally renowned researchers.

Over the past 25 years, MPI-CBG has established itself as an international center for fundamental research centered on the core scientific question: "How do cells form tissues?" Today, scientists from more than 50 countries work at the institute. Its research programs combine biology, physics, mathematics, computer science, and artificial intelligence.

BioMedRTC – new opportunities for international scientific cooperation

Presenting BioMedRTC in this specific international and interdisciplinary setting emphasizes the project's ambition to establish a state-of-the-art research infrastructure in Bulgaria—one that bridges biomedicine with modern technologies and provides a productive environment for both Bulgarian and international researchers.

The participation of BioMedRTC representatives in the MPI-CBG anniversary event marks another step toward establishing the Center within the European scientific community and fostering future partnerships, knowledge exchange, and joint scientific initiatives.
